Assume Joe is 6’2”, weighs 185 pounds, and is picking up his pen. What do you think the force on his back is?
Joe bending at the waist (without using knees) to pick up something like a pen, is comparable to him standing and holding an 80 lb box in terms of force.
For Joe's build, it puts 585 pounds of force on back because his back is also lifting the upper body which is further from the spine.
